Mount Everest avalanche: 15 died

Officials say about 15 local guides have been killed and nine more are missing after an avalanche swept a route used to ascend the world's highest peak, a Nepalese tourism official said. Nepal Army helicopter is been used to rescued.

The high altitude avalanche hit just below Mount Everest Camp 2 around 6:30 a.m. Friday, said Nepal Tourism Ministry official Krishna Lamsal. 4 bodies have been recovered and rescuers are digging 2 more out of the snow. A rescue effort of Nepal Army was underway on April 18, 2014, for climbers feared missing on Mount Everest after an avalanche swept the slopes of the mountain. The those who died and went missing have gone early in the moring to fix ropes for climbers along the route to the 8850 Meter.
